National Landscape Forum 2018 – Ireland’s Waterscapes – Killaloe, 24/25th May 2018

The National Landscape Forum 2018 – Ireland’s Waterscapes. Location: Killaloe, County Clare, Ireland. Date: 24/25th May 2018.

This year the Forum heads to Lough Derg on the River Shannon with healthy waterscapes, tourism, history, photography and engagement with waterscapes all on the agenda.  Our keynote speaker is Jonathan Porter, co-author of the successful Scottish Natural Heritage toolkit for communities ‘Talking About Our Place’. Everyone is welcome! See attached programme or our website: www.lai-ireland.com

The forum aims to bring people together to think, talk and be inspired by Ireland’s Waterscapes. We welcome everyone who has an interest in our place, landscapes and waterscapes.  Our mix of speakers reflects this diversity and includes Community groups, Artists, Photographers, Spatial Planners, Scientists  and  Landscape Professionals.

There are few locations on the island of Ireland where water does not feature in the landscape – as streams, rivers, lakes, estuaries and seascapes. It is a vital ingredient that often defines the quality, health and cultural/natural richness of our landscape and lives. We drink it, swim in it, fish from it, are inspired by it, sail on it and live beside it…How often do we discuss it in the context of an integrated landscape approach?” said Terry O’Regan, founder Landscape Alliance Ireland.

Thursday 24th May 2018: Launch of Forum at the Killaloe Hotel at 18.00 update on National Landscape Strategy and photography exhibit – Faces and Places of Lough Derg, followed by boat trip along the River Shannon.

This annual forum supports Ireland’s commitments under the European Landscape Convention and the National Landscape Strategy. Our fieldtrips include a historical landscape tour of Killaloe and views from 10th Century Cathedral Bell tower; A ‘Go Green’ walk to Clarisford Park with psychologists highlighting how our minds respond to restorative landscapes and a trip to Mountshannon to discuss Holy Island (Inis Cealtra), an island on the tentative list of World Heritage Sites.
